Noblesville's original 26 town squares were platted directly on the White River's east bank in 1823, and homes closest to that river-adjacent core deal with a higher water table and more consistent hydrostatic pressure against foundation walls than Carmel's inland neighborhoods — a factor that compounds the region's already-expansive clay soil.
